On 6 June, 2010,  the SIF Association released the SIF Implementation Specification 2.4.  This release has some very exciting changes! 

From a high-level:

•  Instructional Services: Added ContentCatalog as a way to search for content residing in multiple content repositories and return one catalog for those resources.
•  Data Model: In part to support the needs of state departments of education, new elements added to Assessment, Instructional Services, Metadata, Special Programs, Student Information Systems and Student Record Exchange.
•  SIF Zone Services: A new capability added to customize operations, transaction support and database views within the SIF Zone. Initial SIF Zone Services include: Assessment Scoring, Staff Locator, Student Locator and Student Record Exchange.
•  SIF XML Filter: Provides for filtering either entire messages or elements of messages, empowering zone administrators to prevent sensitive information from reaching undesired systems.
